June 17

Last day of culminating and the year. It feels great to finally put this class behind me and I only have a little bit of culminating to finish. I can only hope that I will do well on the exam.

Day 14 culminating. I am almost done what needs to be done. Mr. Arkin was away today and as such I couldn`t ask him for help. I will tomorrow.

Day 13 Culminating, I made more progress today on my new task but the going is slow as I am having troube in certain areas that i need to fix.

Day 12  culminating, I made substantial progress yesterday night on my new Culminating and I got Mr. Arkin`s help on how to fully complete the assignment. I mad more progress today but the progress is slower than what I had previously hoped.

June 13

Day 11 Culminating, My partner did nothing over the weekend, he pretty much ignored all of my emails as well. No matter it seems like we are going to be split up as a group now and he'll be on his own. At this point I really don't care all too much. I now have to do just a small culminating involving the customer, flight and reservation classes. I now have to rush through these things.

June 10

Day 10 culminating, My patience is running thin with my partner and I have no idea what to do with him. After some consideration I am giving him one last chance over the weekend to hopefully do something, that he clearly didn't do yesterday even after I told him that I was going to the Athletic Banquet and as such cannot do anything that night. No matter speaking of the Athletic Banquet I won not on but two awards, I got MVP of the 15's rugby team and MIP of the Hockey team. Both of these awards really struck me out of left field, I had no idea what so ever. I'm pretty tired from last night as I got home at around 12 because I bused back with my friend.

June 9

Day 9 culminating much of the same is going on with myself doing the load of the work while my partner sits at his computer doing anything but being useful. It is going on 2 days since I told him to do a simple task. As is pretty evident in my writing I'm getting pretty pissed with him. Anyhow on a brighter note the Athletic Banquet is tonight and it appears that its going to be pretty great. I can wait to see who wins what awards this year and I also can't help but feel a little hope that I might win one too.

June 8

Day 8, much more work continued today as the culminating in itself is almost over I still feel as if we are more than a little behind though. Also today I fixed a problem I was having with my frequency count assignment.

June 7

Day 7 of the culminating, we continued working on the culminating today and it appears that we are making good progress. I can only hope that it continues. We had to make a few changes in the direction that our logic was going today and I'm hoping that they will greatly benefit us. I only hope as of now though that we aren't going to fall behind in the coding aspect of this assignment.

June 6

Day 6 of Culminating, after a weekend of hard work it seems as if I am back to the grind once again. I handed in the first part of the Culminating today and Mr. Arkin said that there were only little grammar errors in it. Also though we needed to add some more descriptions to the 3rd part where we describe our code. This part needs to have more of a knows it's parts and also needs to show what it is being connected to. I hope to finish that part tonight if my schedule permits.

June 3

Day 5 of culminating, today was a very productive day in which I basically completed the first step. I was slightly surprised to learn that the deadlines for each part were very much so important, I had previously thought that they were instead used as a basic planner that we were to follow. Unfortunately the submission needs to follow guidelines and I will have to account for those later today at home. My partner was also revealed today to have no clue of how to do basically anything that we were supposed to be learning this year and I may have to do all of the programming myself.  My weekend is set to be as busy as possible with me working at least 15 hours, at least I will be making a substantial amount of money though.

June 2

Day 4 of culminating, My lack of time available for work is really not helping today as I had little to no time to do anything culminating related. I can only hope, in vain, that my partner at least did something more useful than class today. I feel that he is focusing to much on the minuscule details and as such limiting his progression or maybe he is slow. No matter I can only hope that tomorrow's class is more productive than today and I can finish the first step. 

June 1

Day 3 of Culminating. I am having some difficulty dealing with the specifications of the assignment based upon all the variables that need to be accounted for in each stage of the planning. My partner is once again researching very little and progressing at a pace that is more than a little slow. I also am trying to finish any outstanding work I still haven't finished as I am still having some problems with the frequency project and Mr. Arkin is almost saying a different thing to do everyday, it is very confusing.

May 31

Day 2 of culminating and I now have a basic idea of what exactly needs to be accomplished. My partner as of yet hasn't proven to be much use than as a researcher. The difficulty with this project it seems is going to be with my extremely busy schedule and trying to make time to do all 3 of my culminating activities along with regular classes and a work schedule. I hope I end up succeeding and cannot wait until this is over.

May 30

Today we were given our Culminating Activity and it looked daunting to say the least. It seems as if this project is going to take many hours to finish and more to do so well. I cannot pretend to be particularly happy about my partner as he was chosen by a system of elimination. The other groups it seems were formed too fast for me to process and I was stuck with someone who I'm not entirely sure will be of great use based upon his meager understanding of the concepts that are going to be required. No matter what's done is done and I hope that I do well in this project.

The day of Prom, my teachers had essentially straight out said not to come today and I decided that I could do what I need to do at school at home so I stayed home. I got some much needed rest as I believe that I have been overstretched with almost too many commitments.

Some unforeseen problems came up today and as such I missed class.

We dissected a Stack class today made by Mr. Arkin and while initially complicated it seems like the stack class will be pretty straight forward. We also got a handout on Exceptions and the concept behind it seemed smart and like a damn good idea. I continued work on Frequency counter as well, it really doesn' want to be completed it seems.

May 24

The weekend was great as it allowed me to recover from the stresses of schoolwork for a rather long period of time. I did more work on my FrequencyCount assignment today in class that persists in being a pain in my ass. Also we learned about Stacks today in class they seemed fairly straight forward to implement and at first sight don't appear to have the same sort of trouble attached to them as frequency. Also we learned of Reverse Polish Calculators today, the concept seems a little radical compared to the standard, and I can see why the didn't catch on.

May 20

I started to once again work on the FrequencyCount assignment today as I felt that I really need to hurry up and get this done. The lack of progress in the right direction in this project by my fellow classmates has me slightly worried on the difficulty of this project. I ran into a lot of errors today but I did feel like I learnt something.

May 19

I completed more work today on the perfect example of the Linked List that we needed to have. The end of year rush is beginning to creep up on me as the work load in each class seems to increase everyday. The stress is building.

May 18

Mr. Arkin returned today with an example of exactly how to do the program. I was disappointed to see that I had been going in the wrong direction and as such needed to completely reprogram my program. I spent the entire period doing this.

May 17

Once again Mr. Arkin was absent today. I made some more progress on the Linked List sorter that was a quiz question and I feel that what I have is a generally good try at solving the problem and presenting a working solution.

May 16

Mr. Arkin was absent today as such we had a work period. I felt that I made some significant progress this period.

May 13

So I came to class today and was informed of the quiz I had missed, I think I may have been sick on second thought, and I found out later from Mr. Arkin that everyone did very poorly on it. Instead of working on Frequency count today everyone was tasked with completing the quiz by trying to code it as an assignment instead. I once again know what to do but not exactly how to do it yet.

There was a quiz in class today that I missed and I can't remember why I missed it... seems like it will remain a mystery to me.

We received the text files that we will need for our Frequency Count assignments today and to put it bluntly it pretty damn big. 8.9 Mb to be exact, while size shouldn't matter in the case of the Counter. It certainly counts against the RAM in this old dinosaurs which we use in school, these dells are clearly bad as the file alone takes ages just to open, imagine how long it must be to actually run them in Dr. Java. I started some review on Bufferedreaders today as it will be vitally important in the coming future. I almost finished the Linked List class.

I made more progress on the Linked List class today even though I should be on the Frequency Count today. The time until exams seems to get infinitely smaller ever day...

Today we began on a new project the frequency count project. Unfortunately I need to put this on the back burner for a while as I finish up on other previous assignments. The concept behind this project seems pretty sound to me and I have a basic idea of what needs to be done but no exact idea of the how part. Hopefully I can finish up my Linked  List class so I can get to this project.

Rugby today we once again played in some terrible field conditions and I once again screwed up my hand. At least we won. It was domination from the first kick as our team went on to win by more that 20 points.

I came to class on this day and found that once again I had fallen behind the majority of the class in what I missed. No one seemed to have a very good foundation of what was going on to give me a general idea. I eventually got a basic idea from talking to people and self teaching though. I will try to catch up if other commitments give me time as I have been picking up much more work than usual this week.

I had rugby today, it was great to play a game as it had been too long, less than a week since my last game, and I couldn`t wait to get on the pitch and play. We lost, but it was very, very close. Both teams were covered in mud by the end of the game because the field was especially muddy. Also during the game the ball went into a puddle and it was not a pretty sight seeing about 10 guys fighting over a ball with muddy water splashing everywhere. The field after the game had way more mud than it had little patches of grass.

I went to class today to find it very empty, more so than usual, I found out that there was a field trip and as such there were maybe 10 people in class today. I caught up on the Linked Lists that I had missed today as my internet was acting weird all weekend for some annoying reason I could not find out. I`ll eventually do the Double at home.

Today we had a quest speaker, Jack Gao, who talked about all things University and his experiences in the life of a student at high school and at University. The questioning period lasted the whole period and was filled with topics of great interest. Some of the things that he talked about sounded quite interesting as I would love to experience the dorm life at University as everyone I`ve talked to has good things to say about it. Also the class schedule is something that is to my liking as I would love the odd day to sleep in nice and late.  Unfortunately though the sleeping schedule he talked about would be very detrimental to me as I have found that I need at least 7 to 8 hours to be sufficiently rested and not grumpy the whole day. Lastly I don;t think that Waterloo would be the University of choice as their idea of fun and my own are pretty different.

Mr. Arkin was away again as such we continued to work on the IT projects today in class. Our choice the Thunderbolt was not too bad as information on it wasn`t that hard to come by. We decided that Tom would do the video, while I would do the HTML coding part. We finished what we could in class and then we finished up at home. I completed the code and I tried to make the site as pleasing to the eyes as possible. I then got Tom to post his video up on YouTube so I could embed the link into our site. As I saw this easier than sending me the video.

I was away sick today, it seems that endless hours in the cold and rain have some side effects, namely one hell of a cold. I found out from Tom that Mr. Arkin was away today as well and that old I.T. backgrounder project was the main project we needed to work on as it was due on Thursday. Good thing we know what we need to do to finish it.

The class got their tests back today and they all were very disappointed by their results. I ended up not being able to write this test as I missed Friday`s class, talk about a waste of study time. But no matter I ended up helping Tom with his answers that he got wrong. I had to leave early though as I had an appointment to get my hand x-rayed. Hopefully my finger isn`t broken.

This day didn't go as well as I liked. The rugby tournament that I had was delayed greatly because the ref either got lost or delayed on the subway. This caused all the games to be almost a hour behind and two whole hours by the end of the day. The games were fun but our team lost due to a heavy lack of experience. This being our first tournament as a group and first game for everyone on the team. Also my finger which I hurt in practice was acting up and hurt like hell all day. I ended up missing the test that I had spent time studying for because of the delay, and instead I went home to wash all the mud off my body.

Today was test review day. I was pleasantly surprised today to learn that cheat sheets, I mean "reference sheets", were allowed and I plan on using that to it's full effectiveness. We spent the whole class period in review mode in preparation for the test tomorrow. The test is supposed to be all on java so I'n not too worried about it but kind of apprehensive. I came out of the period feeling a little more relieved about the test as well.

The Node class took the whole class today for me to wrap my head around. For some annoying reason the whole implementation of it is not coming easy to me. Instead it seems like I am constantly fighting an uphill battle against the damn code. Also it was pink day, I don't have any pink (never have) and instead I was going to wear a shirt I have that is pretty beat up but a bleached red shirt that I own. In my haste to leave the house in the morning I forgot about it and instead grabbed the first shirt I saw, black I think.

The Node class was the hot topic in today's class with the Tester being given. I felt like some of the requirements needed basically went in one ear and out the other. Though I eventually got that back. The word test was also repeated quite frequently as there is going to be one on Friday. I hope that the topics on this test will be released soon so it will be easier to study.

Today in class we took a note to begin with on a new concept called Linked Lists. This ties into Data structures and had more algorithms. The concept wasn't very hard to understand but I was iffy on the implementation for a while. I feel that my grounding in this area is weaker that it should be, and I will address that as soon as possible. Everyone though was having a little difficulty at this stage I found and Mr. Arkin took some time to explain the process in detail.

We were told today to make a simple object class. While originally confusing the concepts behind this were later made clear to me. I`m excited for the weekend though as there is much planned for it.

compareTo was the main topic of the day as all of our old integer arrays were now to be transformed into String arrays. Also using a external file as a source we needed to take those numbers and implement them into an array as well.

Mr. Arkin brought up a new type of sort in today`s class the merge sort. It seems like all we are going to be doing for a while is sorting. I made headway on this program in class and solved many little annoying errors that were extremely irritating.

The binary sort class was discussed in the early portion of class today, with work still being completed on the Bubble sort with additions being made to it to make it a better program. This week was great with rugby finally getting into full swing, the game is something that I certainly missed over the winter.

We learned about a new way to sort arrays today called the Bubble sort. In my opinion it looks much easier in comparison to the other way we previously sorted. I finished the majority of this assignment before the end of class and completed the rest at a later time.

I made some more progress today in both understanding the implementation of the searching algorithms and also in completing the code. The party planned for today was  also cancelled due to everyone basically forgetting about it, an excuse I guess may lie in the fact that their was a day off yesterday due to the literacy test.

With the gr. 11's being taught a lesson today all I did all period was read and review on I/O code. Little of this is coming back to me as little time was spent on this last year.

I did more work on the array assignments in class today and had some lingering troubles with various parts in my code. At the beginning I had some confusion with what direction to go in, but with some help from people around me I eventually caught up with what was going on. This was mostly a work period with various students holding conferences with Mr. Arkin.

We printed assignments off in class today and looked over them with Mr. Arkin. I had some problems with my for loops and my programs giving me weird run errors. I eventually fixed these. I found the feedback to be useful in some degrees and hope that it will continue as some of the finer elements of java still elude me.

I've made some good progress with catching up in class and finishing more of my work. I believe that i now have a much better understanding of the code. I made more progress on the second and third array assignments and I found them to be understandable. We also discussed for loops in class today and I began to remember some of what little was taught last year.

I have now caught up on my blog posts as is evident if you are viewing this. Unfortunately I have completely forgotten about arrays from last year. I'm feeling quite lost in class now. On the bright side a great concert announcement for the summer was made today.

I used this day to try and play a little more catch -up as I believe that I have fallen behind in many of the concepts that are being presented and discussed in class. I completed my BankBranch class today as well.

I slept in today which was bad because i needed this day to catch up, this didn't happened and now I'm pretty  far behind going into March Break.

Today was my birthday and I didn't go to class because I went to the championships for hockey.

Today we had a guest teacher and I finally discovered the project that was assigned a couple absentees ago. I started work on the Thunderbolt technology and I finally got a very good grasp on the concepts that we need to present on. Most of todays class was pretty relaxed and boring as I read through pages and pages of Thunderbolt marketing.

I was absent today due to hockey practice, i began to feel pretty far behind at this point. But since playoffs were ongoing i chose hockey.

Today's class contained cracking the other teams class. The main problem our group found were negative numbers in their withdrawing and depositing. Our group had a pretty similar problem. There also was a lot of problems in the original steps of this exercise as we discovered that files being shared on wikispaces cannot have the same name or they replace the other one by the same name. All in all I felt that i had learned alot about coding and the ways to prevent errors in codes today.

Today we brainstormed ideas for the upcoming Bank Account class that we would be working on as a team in the coming weeks. I felt like I had joined a pretty good group, and i think further evidence was given based upon the list of ideas we compiled during our brainstorming session. The code was started just as class ended.

When I got back to class today I figured out that I had missed out on quite a bit of work and theory. I originally had a lot of trouble grasping the concepts behind the main class and the tester. My group helped me get back up to speed though. I definitely struggled today in class.

Today I was trying to catch up on the work that I had missed from last week. I was brought up to speed by some fellow classmates on what I had missed. I think that I really was lost on major parts of the calculator assignment on this day but I eventually resolved them. Not much else happened in class.

Feb 25

This day was the day of the field trip to York University. I remembered leaving, and waking, very early on this day. I ran into some of the Gr. 11's (I'm too lazy to write their names and this way saves them some embarrassment) in our class quite randomly on the bus as well, I remember this for the reason that they were pretty terrible commuters as they almost missed a bus because they got off at the wrong stop. The trip to York U. was quite easy  really as I was lucky to catch the express that went right to the campus.

I remember that the first presentation was annoying to say the least. The presenter was obviously a last minute replacement who had very little of an idea of what he was presenting on exactly. Also he was too quiet to properly understand from where i was seated. From today I can't remember anything at all about the topic presented. The second presentation was much better in comparison, it was interesting and also the presenters made it more engaging. The topic was pretty cool because it was about robots and building and designing them. Much more interesting than anything else. The computer interaction in the lab was also interesting and was fun to pick a random computer in the room and hack them from afar. The last presentation was interesting in some ways, but boring in others. The graphics were a little gory but interesting but the person presenting was really boring. All in all the day was better than sitting in school all day.

I was absent due to hockey this day and I missed some important stuff as I later figured out. At least we won this game.

Feb 23

Well finally back to posting after a long period of neglect. On Feb 23 we handed in our field trip forms to go to the trip on the upcoming Friday. More Java components were taught in class as well, the concepts were a little tricky at the beginning to grasp but by the end I believe that I had a good idea of what was said. I also felt that many topics that we are using this year weren't fully described in my Gr. 11 class and I feel that the background isn't there. After this I began work on the Calculator class.

Finished the peer marking cause I didn't do it yesterday, also got my form signed. Continued work with Java as well.

Feb 17th Class

I worked on the assignment more today and figured out the many things that I still need to add to it. Working on adding more to the page soon.

Feb 16th

I completed more work upon the website in class today, it was fun to make up a superpower for my hero and to also create a false origin story. I did more work on the website at home as well. Also i'm beginning to find the dropbox extremely useful, annoying problem in that last part my key between z and c doesn't work anymore, major piss off.  

Feb 15th

Problems arose this morning keeping me from class, I hope that and absent day again won't put me too far behind.

I was sick today so I didn't go to class. Will complete work mentioned on the daily Log.

Got link for the first webpage working. Implemented a CSS into the page as well, not much else to say

Feb 10th

Finally got Filezilla to work and connected in class today. I also started on a basic CSS page and validated that for homework.

Feb 9th

I completed the validation part for the Super Power Assignment and also the index of the main html page we have been working on and learning about. This blog has already been linked to the wikispaces page, so I didn't have to do that unlike some others.

Feb 8th

Had hockey during class. I'll probably check the daily log for what to do

I learned about FTP in class today. Tried to use Filezilla in class as well but excessive internet traffic prevented that from happening. Also connected this blog to the class' wikispaces page.

Feb. 4th Class

Took some notes today in class on Website design, in the little time left I got and figured out the basis for and a basic html code for a website.
Going to eventually do the Superpower assignment when I have free time ...

Feb. 3rd Class

My expectations are hopeful for the new semester.

Took time to set up this account and what I'm assuming is a google account when I got home after work.
